This sculpture is referred to as the Gayer-Anderson Cat, named after Major Robert Grenville Gayer-Anderson who, jointly with Mary Stout Shaw, given it to The British Museum, London. The statue is a portrayal of the cat-goddess Bastet. The cat wears a protective wedjat amulet and jewellery and is decorated with a winged scarab that appears on the torso and head. A copy of the statue is retained in the Gayer-Anderson Museum, situated in Cairo.
